At DPort Services, it is a commitment to ensure the health and compliance with the Health and Safety rules of the 2,200 workers employed in the commercial port of Piraeus, while it is everyone’s moral obligation not to allow any negligence in matters of personal responsibility that must be held in the midst of a health crisis , all members of society.
Having followed to the letter all the prescribed protocols for dealing with the pandemic and taking a series of additional preventive protection measures, DPort Services and its partner companies have managed to keep the operation of the commercial port of Piraeus uninterrupted until today. With the perfect cooperation of its almost 2,200 employees, the supply of the Greek market with goods of all kinds continued undisturbed, as approximately 90% of the goods pass through the country’s largest commercial port, it is noted in a related announcement by DPort Services.
In this context and with the main concern being both the uninterrupted operation of the port and the health protection of the workers, the company proceeded last week with another preventive measure. One of the labor unions active in the area, decided to organize a rally on the day of the Panhellenic Strike on Thursday, November 26, without observing the imposed health protection measures, at the same time blocking the entrance of the port to 2,200 workers by the method of synchronizing a few strikes and having violated the rules on movements, gatherings and distances established by the Greek State, it is stated in the same announcement.
As health protection is the only concern of DPort Services, under the current circumstances the workers who wanted to exercise the legal right to strike, with the direct consequence of exposing themselves to a large number of people without observing the necessary protective measures, have been asked to stay out service proactively for reasons of increased security and precaution. Therefore, the company will provide them with the opportunity, if they want, for free diagnostic tests, in order to protect both their families and their colleagues, but also to return to work safely, while they remain out of work will be paid in full, DPort Services clarifies.
The company assures that this action does not create any problem in the operation of the commercial port. The number of gathered workers did not exceed 15, but they were joined by a number of other people, unrelated to the port, who rushed to help them.
The management of DPort Services as well as its employees deal with the health protection of the largest port of the Mediterranean with absolute responsibility, in order to continue the normal commercial activity of hundreds of businesses throughout the country, but above all to ensure that there is no phenomenon of shortages in the Greek market. DPort Services and partner companies will continue with this rationale until we can all overcome this tragic moment together, the announcement concludes.
